| Bye-Bye Darling |
[Oct. 14th, 2009|02:18 pm] |
We've had a lovely almost-two-weeks with ashbet visiting, & now cavalorn has driven her back to the airport & I'm feeling many flavours of glum.
Hope you're having a safe flight, sweetie. May your foil trays of edibles be edible & your seat sleepable-in.
Oh, & the baby just took off her (wet) cloth nappy & handed it to me, right after I'd just set off a load of her washing, d'oh! |

Not very much of it left, but just wanted to say that I've had a lovely birthday today, with cavalorn, ashbet & the littley.
Went round antique markets in the rain, ate yummy lunch with baked cheesecake & French soda, & Chinese take-away in the evening, & came home to find neighbours had left me chocs & flowers :) |

Hmmm. Am not going to cavalorn's school disco thingy as I am not feeling in any way, shape, or form, fabulous enough.
Also, babysitting plans fell through, & have nothing to wear.
Really looking forward to ashbet's visit next week, but currently having a gods-awful cold. Very tiresome indeed.
The Bean spotted a box of Ferrero Rocher just now & said "TREASURE! Treasure! Treasure!!!" |

| D-I-S-C-O (& the late lamented albino publican's son) |
[Sep. 4th, 2009|11:40 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | thoughtful | ] | Last night, I bought a pair of flashing LED colour-changing earrings.
I would feel less of a sucker if this wasn't the third pair of light-up earrings I've bought in the last couple of years, & I never go out any more. Perhaps I'll wear them to cavalorn's school reunion disco thingy next month, where he has already announced that I'll keep Pete Burns happy so he doesn't get bored. Long story short: some people's old school-mates go bald & work in supermarkets, cavalorn's just get more fabulous & marry curious cross-dressing '80's icons. What to wear to this event is already troubling me like a toothache.
In other, less troubling news, there are new dragons, & I'd be grateful if they could have some clicks, especially the babies. (EDIT FOR NEW EGGS!)

This albino one is fully-grown now, but I like the way it looks. I named it after a local character of a previous century, whose gravestone is outside his family's pub.
The story goes that the albino boy was bullied, & killed himself, & his parents put up a gravestone to him in the churchyard which basically had an epitaph pointing the finger at the community for not being kinder to him. The vicar asked them to remove it, so they took the whole headstone & planted it directly outside the front of their pub, where it still stands.
Autumn came with a vengeance on the 1st. We have driving rain, falling leaves, asthma & more home-made jam than you can shake a stick at. Also, the Bean said "I love oo" for the first time the other day. Bless. |

Gah. Bank Holiday Weekend & I am feeling pants. Also weepy, as family have been visiting for just over a week & have now gone home.
Yes, my parents sometimes drive me potty, but my daughter loves them with unreserved glee, & they her.
I've reached the age when I can see how short a time we have on the planet, & how her happiness is more important than mine. I still want ice-cream & trips out, but now I'd rather go to the farm shop where she can see the pigs than an afternoon clothes-shopping.
Well, almost. |

Oh ye gods, a meme!
You can only answer yes or no, no explanations. Some may not be what they seem.

Poor cavalorn had to go to the emergency dentist.
He just got back, all sorry for himself, but tanked up with painkillers & going back for x-rays & stuff, poor guy. Nasty infected wisdom tooth :( |

Lovely weather in Brighton on Wednesday.... the kids in the background are some of the puzzlingly ever-present French teenagers: hardy buggers!
Hot & sunny forecast this weekend... crazy! |

| Dressing Up |
[May. 27th, 2009|10:48 am] |
On June 6th, there's a village D-Day festival, being held in the churchyard.
You know, the one directly outside the back door, so there's no way of avoiding it, really.
There's a prize for the best costume.
(OK, no suggesting that the SS had the best costumes, that'd get us put in the stocks)
So.... we were thinking of putting the Bean in a sailor suit, or a little smocked dress, but what about us grown-ups? Hats/turbans are required for our anachronistic hair.
Also, if anyone can LEND us anything, that would also be amazing... |

| Dragon Plea + BATS! |
[May. 25th, 2009|10:19 pm] |

Can I pathetically ask if a few people who don't usually click on dragons could check this little guy out, he's in danger of dying, & I've never killed one before :(
Been out bat-watching in the graveyard with the Bean tonight. She squeaks "BAT!" at them as they fly over. |

| A Day at the Fair |
[May. 24th, 2009|11:55 am] |
Yesterday, we all went to the Heathfield Show, which is a livestock festival of immense proportions.
We saw sheep, cows, pigs & horses, all brushed, washed & trimmed within an inch of their lives. We saw yellow chicks & striped piglets & racing ferrets. We saw pretty much every shape & size of dog.
We saw giant tractors & monster trucks, an ancient threshing machine, & many, many chainsaws.
We saw lots of people in those Australian sheep-herders hats.
We ate fresh, hot doughnuts, rolled in sugar, from a paper bag. We tasted home-made dark mead, cider & cake, & admired great tables groaning with cheeses, honey & other goodies.
We saw noisy rides, & paid to go into the striped MOUSE TOWN tent, which was well worth 50p & I would happily go again.
Yes, ashbet, there were heavy horses. Also, tiny ponies & miniature cattle!
The Bean rode on my back all afternoon, & learned the words "SHEEP" & "MOWSHE!"
Will go again next year, but catch a few more events, & venture into the huge food tent, rather than dodging it!
We got leaflets about garden furniture, & a plant called a Chocolate Cosmos.
It didn't rain, but neither did we get sunburned. |

| Le Sigh |
[May. 15th, 2009|02:09 pm] |
Feeling glum because I have a sinus headache of migraine-like proportions.
Been slowly fading over the last four hours, so now I've managed to eat some toast without throwing up, but, yeesh, I can do without stabbing pain to the eyesocket.
Baby has been learning the difference between Mummy & Daddy. Daddy has a tattoo on his chest. It is "A BAT!" (yelled with glee) whereas the one on Mummy's chest is "SHTARRR!"
Yes, Daddy has "BOOB!"s, in a sense, but they are flat & do not function as snack dispensers.
The fact that I was having this conversation until gone 2am is part of the reason I feel so ill today.
Also feeling glum as I cannot access my favourite forum, where I'm doing some tie-dyeing for seven people, & all my notes are there, so now I'm stuck. Poo. |

| Dragons & Gardening |
[May. 11th, 2009|01:54 pm] |

Leetle dragons need clicks to grow wings, eggs need clicks to hatch :)
I've been gardening since Saturday morning, & actually ended up stiff & sore after spening nearly all Saturday digging small holes.
I now have FLOWER BEDS with all sorts of plants in them, a little herb garden, & a window box full of little tomato plants, with pots of chilli peppers & beans along my windowsill.
I still have sweet pea seedlings to plant, & a good few more bedding plants. A bed of assorted white flowers are starting to poke shoots through beside my herbs. A huge amount of undergrowth was cut down & binned in the correct colour wheelie.
The village horticultural society had a plant sale on Saturday morning, you see, & I went SHOPPING, & then hit up a couple of garden centres for cheap containers, compost etc.
Feeling a bit poor now, but this is my first proper garden!
Oh, & inside my windowsill, there are black flowering sunflowers germinating :) |
